Dollar Tree's Spring Wreath Contest - 2020

Create Your Own Spring Wreath

Spring is here along with an opportunity to win a $100 gift card from Dollar Tree!
The rules are simple; make a wreath, submit a photo of your creation to the wreath contest page and then wait to hear the results 😁

The contest description instructs crafters to make a wreath using $1 craft supplies, but also notes that purchase is not necessary.  Personally I like to add a bit more to the challenge and restrict myself to Dollar Tree items only.  And speaking of challenges - my state is currently under a 'stay at home' order so I decided not to venture out to the store.  Instead I managed to put my wreath together using only Dollar Tree items that I already had on hand.  Check it out:

Create Your Own Spring Wreath
Supplies

A willow wreath, glittery foam eggs and a handful of faux leaves
were all that I had needed to pull my wreath together 😊

These particular eggs are usually found as picks, I just removed their bamboo sticks.
And any floral bush will do, just snip off the foliage.

You can click here to browse Dollar Tree's online store.
Note:  Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many items have been suspended from online ordering.

Create Your Own Spring Wreath
Step 1

Using a bit of hot glue I added a small section of leaves to the bottom.

Step 2

A little more glue and I attached a few eggs on top of the leaves.

Step 3

I repeated the process on a smaller scale and there you have it, a simple spring wreath!

Faux Chocolate Easter Bunnies

Chocolate Bunny Easter Decor

Hello everyone, I hope all are well and healthy!
I've decided that while we are socially isolating I may as well get as many projects done as possible.  That means a whole lot of browsing through Pinterest has been going on 😉

I was inspired by this post from the Artsy Fartsy Mama to make my own faux chocolate bunnies and I knew I had to give it a go:

Chocolate Bunny Easter Decor
Ceramic Bunny

I found my bunnies at the Dollar Tree, but any ceramic bunny decor will do.  I plan to keep my eye out for more while treasure hunting so that I can expand the family 😄

You can click here to view Dollar Tree's online selection of holiday decor and more.

Note:  Dollar Tree has currently suspended online ordering due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  You may still browse their selection, but purchases can only be made in store.  If you happen to be out for necessities, go ahead and grab a few, but I don't recommend making any extra trips at this time.  I picked my bunnies up before our State's lock down took effect 😉

Chocolate Bunny Easter Decor
Supplies

In addition to my bunnies, I used brown acrylic paint and puffy paint in pink and blue.

Chocolate Bunny Easter Decor
Hook Removal

Not wanting my bunnies to hang as ornaments, I used a pair of pliers to remove the metal hooks.

Chocolate Bunny Easter Decor
Paint

I gave my bunnies two coats of the 'melted chocolate' paint.  In person they look pretty good, but apparently my camera picks up things I can't see on my own.  I'm looking at these photos and wincing at the uneven spots!  I'll probably go back and touch them up this weekend 😄

Details

A bit of puffy paint for the bows and my faux chocolate bunnies are done. will be done after a touch up 😆  I can't wait to find more now, especially larger ones like Lindsay used in her post.  If you haven't already, go ahead and check out her site now!

Candelabra Restyle

Upcycle Recycle Treasure Hunting

Last summer I found this candelabra for .50 while treasure hunting.  It was dirty, covered in wax and coming lose at the joints, but for half a dollar why not?  I love being able to recycle unwanted items into something new and fresh, so this was a project for me.

Take a look at how easy it was to clean up:

Upcycle Recycle Treasure Hunting
Covered in Wax

Here is the candelabra as I found it.  The stainless steel was still nice and shiny, though it contained large splotches of red candle wax.  I was able to tighten the joints by hand and as for cleaning...

Upcycle Recycle Treasure Hunting
Steam Cleaner

I used a handheld steam cleaner to remove the wax and dirt.  Just place a paper towel to protect your sink drain and blast away!  There is something incredibly satisfying about watching a mess disintegrate before your eyes 😉  I have used this cleaner for many projects and household cleaning and I love it.

You can find a similar steamer  here.

Upcycle Recycle Treasure Hunting
Bright & Shiny

A lot of people might choose to leave the candle holder in it's silver finish but since I'm a gold person...

Gold

...spray paint it was!  And now I have a perfectly lovely
golden candelabra that fits right in with my decor.

Thrifted Shams as Couch Throw Pillows

When I found a set of four white quilted pillow shams at a church sale, I took them home, washed them and tucked them away in a closet.  I bought them because they were in perfect condition, pretty, thick and cozy and only .25 each, that's a dollar for the entire set!

After storing them away for awhile I finally decided; why not use them as couch throw pillows?
It turned out nicely, take a look:

Pillows Before

Here are the pillows as they were before.  The large velvet in the back are down-filled but stiff because of the fabric.  They are nice to look at, but not so cuddly.  The other two are just plain old.  I bought them when we got married and that was 18 years ago, so it was definitely time to do something different!

Pillows After

Here is the couch with the new shams in place.
These larger, bed-sized pillows function much better for relaxing, napping or watching TV.
