Treasure Hunting 2014

My Granny was the biggest garage sale enthusiast you could ever meet!  All spring, summer and fall she would go to every garage sale held on Fridays and Saturdays in our local twin city area.  She began at 7am and would go until Noon, following a route that she had mapped out the night before using the local newspaper.

Now I do things a little differently.  Instead of looking in the newspaper I visit the online classifieds.  Instead of drawing up a route with a map, I copy and paste my addresses into MapQuest.  Instead of leaving the house at 7am I leave closer to 10am (after my little ones have woken up and eaten a proper breakfast).  And instead of going to every sale in town, we visit 3 or 4 in our neighborhood only.  Let's face it, with two kids in tow you just have to re-structure things a little bit....or completely!  Heeheehee!

Anyway, I love visiting the yard and garage sales in my neighborhood.  I call it 'Treasure Hunting'.  As long as I can remember my favorite piece of money has always been a quarter (I know, I know, why not a $100 dollar bill?!?!), and I get so excited If I find something for .25!  Today I am sharing some of my glassware pieces that I have found.

Now remember how I said my favorite price is .25?  Well that makes this white ceramic tray a total splurge at $3.00 (haha!).  I found it recently and decided to use it in the kitchen.  I thought it would look nice on my backers rack.  And now Husby has a prettier place to drop his keys and change ;)  (Kitchen decor post coming up in the future)

This is my new milk glass punch bowl set.  I visited My Aunt's sale this week, and she and my Grandma insisted that I have this set.  It turns out that it belonged to my Great-Grandmother!  Now that is a treasure!

These are the other pieces of milk glass that I currently have.  The pedestal bowl I found for $2.50, and the lidded box was $5 (ok, this whole post was a splurge!)  I love the way milk glass looks, it's so clean, fresh and elegant.  It also blends well with any season or holiday.  I just switched over from spring to summer decor, so right now my pedestal bowl is holding some faux strawberries.  I'll post my summer decor photos soon, thanks for stopping by!
