Bringing out the Barbie Dream House

 Toy Collection

During a trip to Goodwill I came across the exact same Barbie house that I had in the 80s for only $40, complete with furniture!  For quite awhile I kept it stored in the attic, but decided to finally bring it out.  Read on to learn more:

I was inspired by my blogger friend Deb Barna and her dollhouse, Nelson Crest. Deb routinely features her house as part of her decor, which means she gets to enjoy it.  I wanted to start enjoying my Barbie house too, so I pulled it down from storage.

After a good cleaning, I fixed up the window boxes by first painting the planting surfaces green.  I then cut and trimmed the flowers so that they fit better and hot glued them in place.  I also added bits of extra greenery to fill out the look.  As I mentioned furniture came with the purchase as well, but I'll get to that in an upcoming post 😊

I planned to keep the house in my enclosed back porch, but didn't like it sitting directly on the floor.  I needed something to rise it up and provide more storage, so off to the thrift store I went.
I found this TV shelf  for 7.99 and knew it would be perfect after a little attention.

You can see in the close-ups that the surface of the shelf was quite damaged, but I planned to sand and paint anyway.

I painted the shelf in a fresh, clean white.  The top still shows a bit of damage even through the paint, but that will be covered by the Barbie House.

The cubbies of the shelf are perfectly sized to fit the pool and ice cream shop that I also have...stay tuned!

Here is the house all cleaned and at home on the new shelf, ready for furniture and accessories.
