We have a spot at the end of our vegetable garden that was just begging for a table and chairs. Read on to see how an old thrifted kitchen set became outdoor seating:

Here is how the table and chair set looked when I found them for $30. Not too bad, but definitely in need of a good cleaning. I also sanded them well before applying the spray paint. The spray paint only held up for a while though and began to come off, so I ended up sanding again and repainting with paint intended for outdoor use - much better!
Note: Because these pieces are going to be outside, it's important to give the bottoms a coat of paint as well, especially any point that comes in contact with the ground. This will prevent water damage and help the furniture to las longer.
Here is how the set looked after repainting, so fresh and clean! I kept the frames and legs white while going with gray for the seats and table top.
The rug is also thrifted and works well to define the space wile preventing weeds. We've since added a layer of mulch underneath so the surrounding area looks a bit better. The vintage molds I collected from yard sales and thrifting, I have a post featuring those coming up soon.

DeleteJennifer, I love how your outdoor dining set turned out with the new paint! I do love using furniture pieces outdoors. For years, my mom and dad had his mother's old maple dining set outside on the patio at our last family home in Northern California and it eventually warped and the veneer peeled up, but it was good for just sitting outside and enjoying a lovely day. Anyway, I featured your post at last week's Share Your Style #453, as I believe you already know.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday,
Barb :)
Enjoy yours and I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day,
Barb :)
Thanks so much for the feature!
