Fake Bake Supplies

If you remember last week's post, the top drawer is full of jewelry making supplies.

The bottom drawer is where I keep all of my glitter sequins and embossing powders.  The drawers were still unfinished when I took these photos, but since then I have painted them white as well.  It's a small detail but I think it looks a lot better!

And here is how the bottom cabinet looks.

Fake Bake Supplies

On the right I have storage bins on top that are filled with different types of 'toppings'.  The left container contains Dollar Tree foam balls, the middle is full of plastic fruit and the right holds faux snow and ice cubes.

Next to the drawer storage are divider bins where I keep tiny charms and have them sorted by season.

Here is a post where I share how I customized the plastic drawer fronts.

Fake Bake Supplies

Inside that drawer set is full of paper straws.

On the right side of the cabinet I have more 'sprinkle' type toppings and another drawer set.  The plastic divider boxes on top have foam cutouts, sweet treat themed charms and little faux candy pieces.

Both containers of the multicolor bead sprinkles that you see in this photo were made by recycling old 'seek and find' toys.  Check out this post to see what I mean.

Inside the small drawer storage on this side of the cabinet are all sorts of paper cupcake liners.  I tend to pick these up at Dollar Tree or Walmart.  You can find them at thrift stores and yard sales too, just make sure that you aren't using anything for real food that isn't still factory sealed 😉

Standing next to the cabinet is a stack of plastic drawer storage that I spray painted gold on the fronts.  This set I labeled using simple post it stickies, but if you want to see another set where I used the Cricut, click  here

The huge bucket of spackle I picked up at a local home construction thrift store.  It's been about a year now and I'm still using it!

Inside my small drawers I have miscellaneous tools on top, clay, silicone putty mix and silicone molds in the middle and cans of spray foam on the bottom.

You can click here to read all about how to make your own silicone molds using real cookies.

The larger drawers contain smaller buckets of spackle as well as the ingredients to mix up salt dough.

Craft Room Organization: Jewelry Making

 Craft Supplies

I've heard it said that collecting craft supplies is as much as a hobby as crafting itself and I totally agree!  I would also go a step further and add that organizing my treasures is just as much fun.  Recently I shared what my craft room looks like, now I want to let you peek inside all of the drawers and cabinets!

Today I'm starting with the jewelry making section, check it out:

I found this cabinet at the thrift store for around $50 and refinished it with white paint.  The glass doors were originally clear, but I knew that I wanted to hide what was to be stored inside.  A bit of gold spray paint on the inside of the glass did the trick.

Here is the cabinet with the doors opened.  The top shelf is all beads and the bottom holds buttons and miscellaneous embellishments. I also have a couple of my Ariel canvas pieces tucked in here.  You can read this post to see how I made them.

These photos are all closeups of how I have my things organized and stored.  I like to separate items by color and then position them in a rainbow pattern.  The multi compartment bead boxes and the jars with white lids are all from Dollar Tree.  The rest of the containers are reused candle jars, thrift store/ yard sale finds or the containers that the beads actually came in.  I keep a couple of milk glass dishes here as well, ready to hold any beads that I want to work with.

Below the upper cabinet is a set of drawers with another cabinet space.  The cabinets and bottom drawer are full of fake bake supplies (which I'll share at another time) but here you can see inside the top drawer:

Easter Decor Turned Halloween Tree

Halloween Tree

After transforming an old dollhouse into a Halloween decor, I've been wanting to add accessories like spooky trees and pumpkins.  So far I've been limited to bottle brush trees that were darker shades of green and used moss to cover up the 'snowy' bases.  But then I stumbled upon an old miniature Easter egg tree and thought, why not just recycle it?

Read on to see how easy it was to do:

Here is the Easter egg tree as I found it; white with a little bit of sparkle and 'potted' in a concrete round that was covered in burlap.  I think I found this at the thrift store.  I do remember it was only a couple of dollars 😊

It was super easy to spray paint the tree in black and then put the burlap covering right back on!

After that I hot glued tiny bits of faux moss here and there to add texture.

Wanting to add a bit of spooky, I removed the backing from a few plastic bat rings and glued them on as well.  I picked up the bats from Dollar Tree where there are all kinds of cute Halloween embellishments.  This year they even have bottle brush trees that are already colored in black, orange and purple!

Faux Laundry Decor

Laundry Room

If you are like me you love photos of beautifully styled laundry rooms complete with all of the soaps having been transferred into upgraded containers.  I think it's so pretty!  But I really don't want to take the time to mess with all of my detergents and fabric softeners every time they are empty or I have to grab a different scent because one is out.  I also don't feel super comfortable having glass jars out in the open in such a busy area.  So I came up with a compromise:  faux product laundry decor!
Read on to see how you can copy the look:

Laundry Room

I started with these beverage dispensers that I found at the thrift store for about $5 each...

...and then mixed up some resin combined with acrylic paint.  I chose a couple of shades of blue to look like detergent and fabric softener.

You can check out this post if you want more details about working with resin or this one if you want to read about how I messed it up once!

You can click here to find the resin I used on Amazon.

Laundry Room

Once my resin was mixed and the colors added, I poured them into the glass containers.  If you use a jar with a spout like I did, you'll want to make sure they are tightly closed.

Also, there must have been a tiny chip near the spout opening of the dark blue container.  Because of this the heat of the resin (as it cured) caused a few tiny spider cracks to spread out from the spout.  I still think it looks ok and thankfully it held up.  Now that the resin is fully cured the container is nice and solid, but had it leaked out it could have been a disaster.  I recommend letting the resin filled containers cure on top of some sort of dish that can contain any leaked resin to avoid ruining your work surface.

And here are my finished faux laundry soaps on display.  Nice and tidy and cute to look at!
