Playhouse Shed Decor

Toy Collection

Last week I shared my playhouse shed's interior and furniture, this week I'm showing you the decor.  Check it out:

Note - this is my last post for 2025.  I'll be taking my holiday break for the next couple of weeks, but you can expect a new post January 9th!

Toy Collection

Here is how the shed looked at 'move in' time. I had the furniture in place and the walls painted, but didn't yet have the appliances.  While I was looking for those I decided that I could at least bring in and organize some of my toy collection, as well as decorate.

In case you missed last week's interior and furniture post, you can find it here.

Toy Collection

I purchased Dollar Tree bins and printed labels with my computer to sort dishes.  The floor covering is a thrifted table cloth that I found for $4.

Toy Collection

Using E6000 industrial strength glue, I attached hooks to the walls to hang picture frames.  The pictures on this side are laundry themed because that's where the washer and dryer will go 😊

Toy Collection

The back wall, above the cubbies, is where the refrigerator, sink and stove will go.  Above here I hung a framed seed packet and a couple of food themed prints.  Again I used the E6000 and picture frame hooks.

Toy Collection

The right side of the playhouse will be the baby care center, here is how it looked at first.

Toy Collection

I used my Cricut to add a decorative sticker to the bathtub so that it wasn't so plain looking, and braided twine rope for hanging the cradle.  Again, all picture frame hooks and E6000.  I used the tiny ledge at the top to store some small doll accessories.  A bit of double stick tape on the bottom of each item keeps them in place.

I want to point out that this 'playhouse' is not intended for kids.  It's really just a glorified storage cabinet for my toy collection and not a safe area for unsupervised play.  Having ropes like this could pose a strangulation hazard, so it's best not to do the same if you will be having actual children around!

And that's the playhouse shed decor so far!

Playhouse Shed Interior & Furniture

 Vintage Toys

If you've been hanging around here for awhile, you know I love to collect vintage toys.  My favorites are Cabbage Patch dolls, Magic Nursery dolls and Fisher Price food toys, and the collection has grown quite a bit!  I needed a place to store my collection that would be cute and fun but also understated...so another shed it was.  Read on to see how I turned a simple metal shed into a playhouse:

Vintage Toys

Here is the 6X4 metal shed that I purchased from Amazon.  Once you get done peeling all of the protective plastic from every sheet of metal paneling, it's actually pretty easy to put together.  I like this shed so much that I have one as my decorative garden shed as well (this post shows you both sheds together).

Vintage Toys

This photo shows you how the shed looks once constructed.  No problem if you are actually using it as a shed, but since it's a playhouse I wanted to make things cuter.  I didn't like the color or how a black stripe showed through each section where the panels overlapped.

Vintage Toys

I first repainted everything in a simple gray.

Notice the cap covered screws though?  Something needed to be done about those...

Vintage Toys

...so I pulled out some leftover trim.  The adhesive backed was enough for both sides while the plastic molding would cover the back wall.

Vintage Toys

I attached all of the trim with e600 industrial strength glue, even the adhesive backed trim that was already sticky.

Vintage Toys
Once dry I painted the trim with more wall color.

Vintage Toys

And then added a bit of gold ribbon trim just for fun.

Note - It seems like overkill to use the industrial strength glue for ribbon, but go ahead and do it this way the first time.  I thought I could get away with hot glue here, but the ribbon fell down as soon as summer temps increased!

Vintage Toys

The shed comes with a metal frame floor kit, but no actual floor.

Vintage Toys

So my husband used a couple pieces of scrap wood that I then painted a contrasting shade of gray.

Vintage Toys

A wider length of gold ribbon made a nice baseboard.

With the interior settled, I needed to move on to how the furniture would be arranged.  I knew that I would be putting some toy kitchen appliances inside, but wanted them to be higher than ground level.

A quick trip to the thrift store and I found two upright closet organizers and one shoe rack, $7.99 each.  Though still in their original packaging, they had been in storage for a long time, look at the colors of the clothing in the photos!

Vintage Toys

I positioned the two uprights on their sides to make cubbies along the back.  Notice that the far cubby has no support on the end.

Vintage Toys

A few bricks from the backyard gave stability.

Vintage Toys

Turning the upright organizers sideways meant that the unfinished surfaces were visible, so I painted them white.

Vintage Toys

Here is how the pieces look together, with the show rack hiding the brick supports.

Because the floor was two pieces of scrap wood, there is a seem along the middle.  Just to be safe, I ran Gorilla waterproof tape along the seem to prevent any moisture from coming up.  The floor will have a rug so the tape will be covered up.

Vintage Toys

And that is the playhouse interior and furniture.  I'll have future posts with the decor and toys!

Fake Bake Stacked Burger

Fake Food Decor

I had an idea for a faux stacked burger and wanted to give it a try.  Here is how it turned out:

Fake Food Decor
Fake Food Decor

I kept things really simple and only used two cookie cutters to create all of my shapes with Crayola Model Magic.

Fake Food Decor
Fake Food Decor

For the burger patties I poked little holes all over the place using a Dollar Tree clay tool.

Fake Food Decor
Fake Food Decor

For the lettuce I cut the sides in jagged lines and then ran over the whole piece with a Wilton fondant tool.

Fake Food Decor

Here is how the lettuce looked afterward.  I focused on the edges because that's what will be visible when constructed.

Fake Food Decor

Here are the shapes that I ended up with; square cheese, round smooth for the buns, round distressed for the patties, and round cut/ distressed for the lettuce.

Fake Food Decor

Using acrylic paint I colored my pieces like this:

Classic Caramel - Buns
Apricot - Cheese
Chocolate Bar - Burger Patties
Kelly Green - Lettuce

Fake Food Decor

When everything was dry (I used two coats) I hot glued the stack together like this.  Now the faux burger is part of my snack cabinet, which you can see in this post.

And that's how I made my faux burger!
