Thrifting - June 2020

Garage Sale Home Decor

It's such a weird time in my house right now.  Since we would still like to move this summer, and are actively looking, I haven't put out seasonal decorations for summer or the 4th of July.  Not only that, but most of my every day household decor is in boxes.
Even the curtains have been washed and packed away 😄

That doesn't stop me from planning or thrifting though!
I can't wait to find a house, get moved and get reacquainted with all of my beautiful things but in the meantime....I'm still scoping out the deals.  Check out my recent finds:

Fairy Garden
Fairies & Gnomes

So I've been seeing the little fairy and gnome kits for awhile now and I can't decide; do I like them or not?  After finding this entire set plus decorative rocks and gravel for $5.99 I finally figured it out - I like them if they are inexpensive, but not enough to spend any real money on them 😉

Now I can't decide if they should stay in their original color or if I should spray them gold like tiny statues.  One thing I'm sure of, they will go outside in the garden somewhere where the kids can play with them.

Terra Cotta Pot
Terra Cotta Pot

I'm planning on adding this $1.99 find to my outdoor terra cotta collection.

Faux Topiaries
Topiaries

I have a thing for topiaries because they remind me of the gardens
that you see in Disney princess movies 😄

These were $4.99 apiece, so not to bad at all.  I'll probably leave them as they are, though they would be cute with some flowers too...

Faux Bird Nest
Faux Bird Nests & Paper Stickers

My son and I went through this whole thing at Easter where he really wanted a nest for his Easter egg and I couldn't find one anywhere!  I swore I had some in my stash but after searching through every single bin I came up empty.  Eventually I ended up snatching an abandoned one from a bush in our front yard!  He was happy after that but once I saw these for $2.99 I grabbed them.  This mom is now prepared 😁

The stickers were actually a yard sale find for ten cents.

Mini Succulents
Mini Succulents

Aren't these adorable?  I found them for $1.99 apiece and can't wait to be able to use them.  The terra cotta pot I'll leave as it, but the other two I'll probably paint.

Another Rose Cloche

Beauty and the Beast

A year ago I shared this post where I upcyled an old dome clock into a Beauty and the Beast inspired rose cloche.  I'm adding on to the theme with another cloche, this time solidly filled with fat red roses, check it out:

Beauty and the Beast
Cloche

I found this really large cloche at Goodwill for $5.99 and snapped it up!  I wasn't sure at first how I would use it, but I really liked how my first rose cloche turned out and wanted to complement it somehow.

Beauty and the Beast
Red Roses

I have had this stash of red roses forever after finding them attached to a wreath at a garage sale.  I wasn't interested in the wreath at all but for only .25 (yes, one quarter) I bought the wreath just for the roses! 😁

The roses are really well made, large in size and with rich coloring.  It was one of those cases where they were too perfect to use and I loved just having them available... so never ended up doing anything with them.  But sitting in a bin was just a waste of their beauty, so why not 'store' them in a cloche?  This way I'm using them in my decor, but also not using them, see? They are kind of just still in storage if you think about it.  Now I can feel like I'm using them but also enjoy them 😉

Beauty and the Beast

I spray painted the wooden base gold and stuffed the interior with my fabric roses.

On it's own, the rose stuffed cloche looks a bit weird...

Beauty and the Beast

...but paired with my single rose it makes a nice set.
And that's how I put together my second rose cloche.

Tell me fellow crafters; do you use all of your supplies or is some of your stash really just for decorating your craft space?  I would love to see pics!

Buffet Turned TV Cabinet - Furniture Upcycle

Entertainment Center

I am so happy to be out thrifting and garage sailing again.  Not only is it great to get out of the house, but I've been finding some great deals.  For instance, the buffet that I turned into an entertainment center in the photo above 😄  Read on to see the before and after:

Entertainment Center
Old TV Stand

Here is what we had before: a laminate covered particle board unit that was starting to sag and fall apart.
It did the job but I've been wanting to replace it forever.  It was so damaged on the top that I had to leave a covering there at all times and one of the doors would only close half of the time.

Entertainment Center
Thrift Store Buffet

I was thrilled to find this wooden buffet at Salt & Light for only $60!  It was the perfect size, In great condition, had plenty of drawers and cabinets and even a spot to house our cable box, Wii and DVD player.  What looked like two drawers at the top in the middle was actually a hinged door.  I was able to remove that completely to create an open shelf for the equipment.

Entertainment Center
Gold Details

After cleaning, sanding and painting the piece in white, I sprayed all of the hardware in gold.
It did take four coats of paint to complete, as the dark stain kept coming through, but it was worth the time and effort!

Entertainment Center
New TV Stand

And here it is in place.  We are really enjoying the taller height compared to the old stand.  Not only is it easier to see, but the glare from the living room windows no longer hits the screen the same way that it used to 😎
