Now on to the Kitchen:

Here are the listing photos of the kitchen.
The appliances and linoleum flooring were all original to when the house was built in1983!

Do you see how clean that refrigerator looks in the listing photos?  I don't know what kind of filter/ photoshop magic was used but that is not how it looked when we took possession of the house.  Also, all of the appliances in these photos look to be white, but in reality they are a beige/ cream color.

Aside from that though, the cabinet space is awesome!

Here is what we did:

Home Decor

I repainted all of the cabinetry in white and the walls in beige.

And my Husband and his Dad put down new tile.

We still want to replace the older appliances and change the countertop color, but here is how the kitchen looks now:

Three of the upper cabinets were glass fronts with faux stained glass.  Since I am using the cabinets for storage and not display, I wanted them to be in a solid finish.  I simply took out the glass panels, sprayed them in gold an popped them back in.

The other side of the kitchen was empty at first.  I pulled the pantry from the breakfast room, repainted it and tucked it in next to the fridge.  I also brought in my cupcake/ milk glass cabinet.

This refrigerator was our 'garage' refrigerator at the old house.  The refrigerator that came with this house was soooo old that we stuck it out in the garage for now and brought this one inside just because it looks cleaner.  The dishwasher has been replaced but we still need to get to the range/oven, wall oven and microwave.  They actually work pretty well for their age but we are interested in appliances that are more energy efficient.  The goals for this spring/ summer are solar panels and outdoor shed storage though.  At least the solar panels will help with energy costs until we can swap out the appliances!

I put these gardens together on the front room floor - ice tea and dark chocolate are always a must!

And here are the real supplies 😄

My wood slices I picked up at a yard sale, but here are some on Amazon.  You can always cut and gather them from outdoors as well, just be careful of where you get them.  You don't want to bring any bugs into your home and some states won't allow the transfer of self cut wood to prevent the spread of bugs that could damage woodlands.

The bags of miniature trees I found at Goodwill, but you can purchase those on Amazon as well.

My fairy and gnome collection was purchased mostly at Dollar Tree, with a few thrift store bits added in.  You can click here to view Dollar Tree's online selection.

Knowing that I wanted one of the gardens to have a stream, I used acrylic paint to create one.

Once the stream had dried I covered the remaining surface with sheet moss.  This was really easy to cut and then attach with hot glue.

After that came the fun part!
First I placed the larger structural items like the bridge and trees.  Then I pulled some pebbles and moss balls to cover up the tree bases.  You can also cut your trees apart if you want the look of bushes.

Lastly I positioned my figures and detail pieces - signs, mushrooms, etc.  I chose to glue all of my figures in place, but you could certainly leave them available to manipulate if yo wanted.

New House Makeover: Family Room

 Home Decor

It's now February 2023 and I'm still working my way through the new house makeover series!

Now on to the family room:

These listing photos show the family room as it was when we purchased the house and contain some of the previous owner's furniture.  We ended up repainting the walls beige, the brick fireplace surround white, having carpet put in and swapped out the hanging light for a ceiling fan.

Home Decor

This photo is from right after we moved in.  Tons of things had been completed but we still had to have plastic down to protect the carpeting.  I like things neat and tidy, so for me it was a nightmare!  Husband and kids were just happy to have a fireplace though 😁

And here are the after photos:

Home Decor

Because the family room opens into the craft studio, lots of light comes in throughout the day.  Having the glass doors means I keep the studio picked up as well, since any mess can be seen.  The curio cabinet we've had forever and I repainted it a few of years ago.  Behind the couch you can kind of see a decorative piece of wood.  That's the headboard from the crib that both of my children used.  I repainted it white, added a Cricut decal in gold vinyl and positioned it behind the couch.  The very first photo at the top of this post gives you a better look at the headboard.

Home Decor

The TV stand is a thrifted buffet that I refinished. The coffee table used to be darker oak and black wrought iron until I refinished that as well.

Home Decor

I opted to remove the doors from the small closet and put up a curtain instead.  I like the softness of it and it makes it easier to grab extra blankets/ pillows and still have the chair there.  The chair has a really dark fabric but the slipcover lightens it up nicely.  I love furniture slipcovers because I can pull them off and run them through the laundry as needed.  Since this photo was take I put a matching cover on the couch as well.

Home Decor

Here is a nice shot at night, just because I though it was cozy!  The deer skull that you see in this room is named Herschel and below that is a cabinet where I display my faux snack foods.  You can see inside the cabinet in this post.

Laundry Room Table Makeover

Furniture Makeover

As of now I have great storage for all of my laundry room baskets, but it wasn't always that way!
Read on to see how I made over a thrift store desk into a laundry room table:

Furniture Makeover

Here is how the laundry room looked before.

I like to have separate baskets for different types of laundry (whites, lights, darks and towels).  That way I can see quickly when I have a full load and just toss in a basket.  A vinyl Cricut label  on each basket makes sorting easy for everyone, but the baskets were taking up too much floor space.  I wanted some sort of table that would fit in between the pantry drawers and the washer and allow top and bottom basket storage.

(Here is a post where I show you how I customize drawers similar to the pantry ones in this photo)

I knew if I kept looking long enough, I would find something perfect -
this thrift store desk was $15 and just needed some repainting.

Furniture Makeover

At first I kept all of the shelving intact and sprayed it gold.
It fit nicely in the space, but would only allow one basket to go underneath.

Furniture Makeover

I decided to remove the extra shelving and all of my baskets now fit!  It was too bad to waste the extra spray paint but I held on to the wood just in case I use it in the future 😎

And there you have it, an inexpensive and easy laundry room table makeover!

I'll share a post in the future where you can see the laundry room makeover after we moved in. But for now if you want to see more thrifted furniture re-styles, you can check out this post.
