Fake Bake Decor

I found this stackable toy at the thrift store and knew that If I took it apart, it would make a great set of cookie cutters in graduated sizes.

Once separated I used air dry clay to cut out star shapes in each of the sizes.

After the shapes had thoroughly dried I painted both sides with acrylic paint.

Using light weight spackle to serve as icing, I dolloped a bit on each cookie starting with the largest...

...and then layering the next sized cookie on top.  I turned the cookies slightly so that the edges didn't match up perfectly, but you could do it either way.

Once my cookies were all stacked I added in some faux sprinkles wile the spackle was still wet.

The tree got a little wobbly as the cookies shifted a bit before the spackle was completely dry, but I thinks it turned out ok.  If you want to avoid that happening then just stack one cookie at a time and let the spackle thoroughly dry before moving on to the next layer.  It's the combined weight of all the cookies that can cause the spackle to shift, so letting each layer harden will keep things from moving about.

And that's how I made my fake bake cookie tree! I decided to add this piece to my fake bake birthday collection.

My supplies included small party hats and foam balls that I picked up from Dollar Tree.  Any size party hat will do, just make sure that your foam insert is the relatable size.  You can rest your foam balls inside of the hat and attach with glue, or cut them in half and glue on top.  Cutting them in half will make your supply of foam balls go father, but I wanted the fuller look of more foam outside of the cup (hat).

Using acrylic paints I painted my foam balls in an assortment of cheerful colors...

...and then glued them in place.  I like to display my faux snow cones on a tiered tray with my birthday decor, but you could add curling ribbon or fishing line and hang them as well.

Pot Your Own Cabbage Patch Baby

Faux Plant

As a child of the 80s I had many Cabbage Patch baby dolls, but what I didn't have was one growing in it's little cabbage bed.  Every box had a cartoon image of a tiny head poking out from a bundle of leaves and I always wanted one like that soooo badly! Well here we are today and I decided to make one myself, check it out:

Just in case you aren't sure what I'm talking about, here is the image that was found on the Cabbage Patch boxes.  The story was that the dolls were 'born' from magical cabbages and ready for you to adopt.

Faux Plant Decor

Here is my baby that I decided to use (one of the "preemies"), an 8 inch plastic pot and some foam to help keep the doll in place.

I used a plastic bag to wrap up the doll to keep it clean.

And tucked it into the pot like this.  Adding in foam around the bottom helped to keep the doll secure.

Using sheet moss I cut pieces and glued/ tucked them in until all of the plastic bag was hidden.  I was careful to glue only to the pot and the plastic bag, not the doll itself.

Next up was to create the cabbage leaf collar.  Using these faux leaves and a rubber band, I tucked them in around the neck of the doll.

Just keep adding and adjusting, working your way around the back of the neck until you like how it all looks.

And that's how I potted my own Cabbage Patch baby 😄
This little baby now happily lives in my garden shed.
