I was thrifting when I found a large egg shaped cake pan set for a couple of dollars and I thought it would make a great dragon egg for Halloween! Read on to see how I did it:

The cake pan set came in two halves so that you can bake two half eggs separately .... I don't know if people somehow put the two pieces of cake together or if they display them as two separate halves, but that doesn't apply here anyway 😄 Since I was making a dragon's egg, I knew that I needed them to be glued together.
The two pans didn't meet perfectly so I made sure to add extra hot glue into the open cracks.
*Note - I made my dragon's egg from these pans because that's what I happened to find one day, but it isn't necessary. There are lots of giant foam eggs you can find around Easter time that you can easily redecorate in the same way!
I wanted my egg to have a leather-like texture so I covered the entire thing in strips of painter's tape. I happened to have green tape on hand, but any color of painter's or masking tape will work - you just might have to paint over it.
Using Appel Barrel English Ivy and Marsh Green I painted my egg starting with the darker shade of green first.
English Ivy First
Since I like the color of my painter's tape I didn't work to cover it up completely.
Marsh Green Second
I applied both colors with a sponge brush so that the egg had a mottled look.
Gold Glitter
When the paint was dry I sprayed the egg with a light coating of spray adhesive and sprinkled on gold glitter. I went back and sprayed another coat of the adhesive over the glitter as well to make sure that it stays in place.
I decided that the egg could use a little more interest and sponged on a little black as well.
The black I applied very sporadically without any real pattern.
And here is the finished dragon's egg. I now keep it in a cauldron nearby my potion station - you can see that and the rest of my Halloween decor in this post 😎
