Mini Foods From Various Molds/ Recycled Toy Packaging

Dollhouse

Using craft room supplies, a random mold and recycled toy packaging, I made a whole set of mini foods.  Read on to see how easy it was:

It all started with this 'make your own eraser' kit that I found for a couple of dollars at the thrift store.  The tiny molds were so cute and I figured that  bit of Modelite foam clay would work perfectly.

Here is the Modelite I used, made by Cra-Z-Art.

The eraser kit also had these cut outs that could be folded into doughnut and pizza boxes that I cut out and saved for later.

Beginning with the eraser mold I made these shapes and let them dry overnight.  A few of the waffles I cut apart so that they could be singles.

I'm pointing in this photo because there is some sort of detail that I'm wanting to share with you....but I cannot remember what it was 😂😃😁  I do know that these two trays are identical in layout because I made a couple of extra sets for my nieces....but what am I pointing at???  😆

When everything was dry I started painting in acrylic, it took a couple of coats.  This photo has doughnuts and muffins.

Toothpicks were helpful for rounded items, like these ice cream scoops.

Here are the ice cream scoops all finished.  I put them into an empty Miniverse mini brands container.

I detailed the doughnuts and pizza slices with puffy paint.  Here they are in those boxes I mentioned.

Cherry topped muffins with puffy paint for the fruit and chocolate chips.

Here are the waffles.

And here are the burger and hot dog.  They are cute but too big for Barbie or Miniverse once put together.

For the next batch I used Modelite in a candy mold, painted in acrylic and detailed with puffy paint.  This mold is for chocolate making, but I thought it looked like tiny Bundt cakes!

These two Bundt cakes are for the barbie house, but this one...

... I used to fill one of my Miniverse containers.

speaking of Miniverse, that packaging is how I made up the next batch...

Dollhouse

...these two were as simple as just putting a bit of clay into the containers to get the right shape, then painting once dry.

Dollhouse

This packaging came from one of the Miniverse boxed sets that had a turkey dinner.

I filled the plastic with Modelite to get the mold, then painted with acrylic.

Dollhouse

It's not super smooth with the Modelite, but it's cute enough.  Plaster might work better here.

Dollhouse

The Barbie house now has a feast of turkey and waffles 😊

And that's how I made this batch of mini foods.
I hope you enjoyed this how-to post, thanks for stopping by!

BBQ Grill Repurposed as Patio Planter

Garden Decor

Have you ever used anything unexpected for planting?  Recently I turned an unusable grill into a patio planter, check it out:

Garden Decor

Our outdoor grilling area was looking a bit messy, so I decided to clean things up.  All cluttered together in this photo are a smoker (the tall cylinder), three regular sized grills and a very tiny one.  My husband likes to have two grills so that he can cook a bunch at once, the extra one in the very back used to belong to my Granny.  It doesn't work anymore but we didn't want to get rid of it, so it's just been sitting like that for a while.

I have no idea why we also have the miniature one, but that's ok.  He doesn't bug me about my various collections, and I like to return that favor 😁

Garden Decor

Here is how the grill was to start with.  It looks okay from the outside, but the grate on the bottom was no longer working and couldn't keep charcoal inside.

Garden Decor

I lined the opening with landscape fabric and filled with soil.

Garden Decor

And planted a few leeks.  This would look really pretty with flowers too...

Garden Decor

Here is how the area looks now, nice and (mostly) tidy!  My husband hates the rocks here and wants to put in a patio, but for now this will do 😉

*Note - While my husband keeps these grills like this while cool, he does not use them this close to the house.  Whenever grilling make, sure to pull your unit away from the house or anything else flammable.

And that's how I repurposed a BBQ grill into a patio planter.
