Faux Cupcake Re-Style

I had a set of patriotic themed faux cupcakes that I wanted to change into a more everyday look. Read on to see how a little paint made it work:

Here are the cupcakes as they looked before. They are really pretty, but I wanted to be able to use them for more than a couple holidays each year.

(These cupcakes were purchased from Dezicakes)

I pulled out some acrylic paint in a couple of chocolate colors to get started.

Using a brush I painted over the foam as well as I could, but you can still some blue here and there. I also messed up a bit and got brown on the part that I wanted to leave white.

To fix the mistakes I grabbed some brown puffy paint and used it to add 'chocolate' drips over the imperfections.

It worked really well!

Here are the cupcakes now, all chocolatey and ready for any occasion!

My Little Pony Thrift Store Haul

I decided to start collecting My Little Pony's and found a nice haul at the thrift store. Read on to see what I had already as well as the new:

Here are the ponies that I already had.

Rainbow Dash, Blossom, Princess Cadence, Scootaloo, Pinkie Pie and a tiny Princess Celestia down front.

As well as their stable carrying case.

I was thinking that I would try and collect the ponies that correspond with the sticker names on the carrying case, keep things simple, right?

But then I found this huge batch for about $50, and here we are 😄

How about some close-ups:

Fluttershy and Star Swirl.

Scootaloo, Surf Star and Meadowbrook.

Sweet Berry, Rainbow Swirl, Desert Blossom and Scooter Sprite.

3 versions of Pinky Pie, Parasol and Butter Pop.

This many can fit inside the stable if I'm careful.

Everyone else has to wait out front until I get another bin. And probably more bins because as with everything else I start collecting, it tends to grow and grow😎

Barbie House Decor - Flooring and Wall Coverings

Remember those cube shelves I used to extend the Barbie house? They worked great for adding space, but were plain to look at. Read on to see how I used paper and fabric to create floor and wall coverings:

This project started as simply as gathering some cardstock in various colors and cutting it to the size of the cube 'floors' and 'walls'.

Look at the difference in the outdoor cube when you add a little sky and grass! This is a very simple beginning, but imagine how pretty it could be if you started adding trees, plants, clouds and other details to the background!

Another simple start to the farm. I left the sides blank for now as I'm debating on if they should be more sky or the walls of a nearby barn.

The pet shop got some pink flooring.

The living room also got pink flooring, along with a dollar store fabric 'fur rug'.

The same pink and gray are in the dining room. My mind is full of options for the walls in here and the living room, but so far I can't commit 😄 I like that the rooms can be changed up at will and don't want the decor to lock them into any specific setting, so I'm still pondering...

And more pink flooring with a purple rug in the laundry. Look how the fabric takes on a more pink look once layered on top of the pink paper!

Garden Photo Tour - Fall

I'm ending out year two of landscaping and planting, mostly from seed. It's been slow going with a lot of trial and error, here are a few photos from the early fall garden:

Sweet Autumn Clematis

I bought these as small starts and after a year of growth they are finally starting to fill out nicely. The bees love them and they smell wonderfully!

Mums

The mums are a hit and miss. Of the six that I planted, only two have come back after last winter and they are spindly. I think I'll stick to sturdier, similar looking plants like Coneflower.

Sedum

These were here when we moved in and honestly, I'm not a huge fan. I kind of want to dig them up and remove them, but the bees are feasting and I feel bad taking away their food! Maybe after they die back for the season...

Foxtail Grass

I planted this from seed a couple of years ago and gave up on it because I thought it didn't make it. Not only did it make a lovely, full bush this year, but it's also starting to send out seeds!

This little guy has been staring in my kitchen window for three days now. I'm not sure what he wants but I think we are friends??? 😄

Lilac

One of my lilac bushes is blooming...in September. No idea why this is going on...

Morning Glory and Moonflower

This is a whole situation right here. My husband made me the pipe trellis over the shed because I have a baby Trumpet vine that will eventually fill out over the top (future post). In the meantime, I wanted something pretty in the front and thought why not Morning Glory and Moonflower? I needed to re-do the pots and wanted something that wasn't going to come back and interfere with the Trumpet, so I though these would be perfect.

I've been taking photos the whole way, before and during, how I upgraded the pots, etc, etc, etc, prepping for a future blog post where I'm going to have all these beautiful flowers. And let me tell you, there is not a damn one. Not even a bud 😂😂😂 It turns out that when you mulch with lawn clippings that are nearly entirely clover, you highly increase the nitrogen in the pots. Morning Glory's and Moonflower love nitrogen for growth, but they won't flower. I'll still post about the pot upgrades and all of that, but yeah. Live and learn 😂😂😂
