Laundry Sink Makeover With Tub & Tile Finish

Laundry Makeover

The washtub in our laundry room was old and worn so I resurfaced it with a tub and tile finishing kit.  Read on to see how easy it was to accomplish:

Here is how the laundry wash tub looked as it came with the house and after being cleaned; very stained and dinged up!

I was lucky to find the tub and tile finish that I wanted at the thrift store (unopened/ factory sealed) for only $2.99, but you can purchase a kit at your local hardware store or online.

This Amazon search will show you all kinds of options.  Just make sure to read all directions thoroughly as products need hours or days to set up.

My kit came in two parts, A & B, that had to be mixed together before using.

Because our washtub was already unhooked from it's plumbing and lightweight, I took the entire thing outside into the fresh air to refinish.  If you have to work inside, make sure to have proper ventilation.

Once outside I removed the old faucet and gave the whole thing another scrub with a bathroom cleaner.

When in the laundry room the outside of the tub is covered by a fabric curtain, so you can't really see the finish.  I wanted the whole thing to look fresh though so I went ahead and used spray paint to coat the exterior and legs.

You can see the curtain DIY post here.

I then began applying the epoxy enamel with a brush.  This photo was taken halfway through, can you believe the difference?!

After two coats, here is how the sink looks now.  So clean and pretty!

And here is the tub in place.  We haven't yet purchased a new faucet, but at least it's clean!
