I found this stackable toy at the thrift store and knew that If I took it apart, it would make a great set of cookie cutters in graduated sizes.
Once separated I used air dry clay to cut out star shapes in each of the sizes.
After the shapes had thoroughly dried I painted both sides with acrylic paint.
Using light weight spackle to serve as icing, I dolloped a bit on each cookie starting with the largest...
...and then layering the next sized cookie on top. I turned the cookies slightly so that the edges didn't match up perfectly, but you could do it either way.
Once my cookies were all stacked I added in some faux sprinkles wile the spackle was still wet.
The tree got a little wobbly as the cookies shifted a bit before the spackle was completely dry, but I thinks it turned out ok. If you want to avoid that happening then just stack one cookie at a time and let the spackle thoroughly dry before moving on to the next layer. It's the combined weight of all the cookies that can cause the spackle to shift, so letting each layer harden will keep things from moving about.
And that's how I made my fake bake cookie tree! I decided to add this piece to my fake bake birthday collection.
