Exterior Makeover: Repainting the House

Home Decor

Over the last year we have started to tackle the exterior of our home with paint and landscaping, check out what a difference a new coat of paint makes:

This is one of the listing photos of the house when we bought it where you can see how it looked before; peachy orange brick and brown siding.  The trees had to be removed anyway so that made things easier as we had to clean and power wash to prep the surfaces.

(The lawn used to be predominately mulch on top of plastic.  We are slowly transforming that into a clover meadow but I'll share more about that in an upcoming post)

Here are the paint colors we used and where:

Brick:  Glidden Fundamentals exterior paint UFO Gray, flat.  This opens up looking exactly gray as in the photo, but once painted on a surface can show up very blue depending on the light and time of day.

Siding: Glidden Fundamentals exterior paint Knight's Armor Gray.  This one looks exactly the same whether in the can or on the siding, but earthier and warmer than in this photo- almost a brown undertone.  Because the tone was so warm, it clashed with the cool undertones of the blueish gray that I used for the brick.  I fixed the tone problem by mixing 1/4 of a can of plain white (listed next for the doors) with one full can of this gray.  That calmed the earthiness down and cooled off the warmth.

Doors:  Glidden Grab-N-Go Barn & Fence wood exterior paint white, flat.

Now I'll show you before and after shots:

It looks so much cleaner and fresh, right?!

The coffee table is a side-of-the-road find made of a metal base and wooden top.  Because the top wasn't properly sealed for weather, it quickly became lumpy.  The wood is going to be replaced and painted, but for now that's why it looks so weird 😄  The chairs are $5 thrift store finds that I spray painted in black and the solar lights you can read about here.  The bakers rack is the same one from our old front porch, I just updated it with some black spray paint as well, and this post will walk you through how I made the antler wreath.  The mailbox I updated with spray paint too, and then added a decal cut with my Cricut.

Garage

Along here is now and herb garden with sage, chives and thyme - all perennials that I don't have to replant every year.  This post will show you how I made garden signs for the bed.  I like to have annual herbs too, like rosemary and basil, but those I keep in pots.

The bush at the fence gate is a faux Christmas tree that I stuck in a pot.  I also wired on a few solar lights so it lights the walkway at night.

The rocks here are going to be replaced with road pack to extend the driveway, and a shed will be added at the end.  I'll share that in the future as well.

Back Patio Grilling & Berry Beds

This is going to be changed again as my husband wants to swap out the rocks for brick pavers, but for now it's clean and tidy like this.  The three oval metal beds are now planted with blueberryraspberry and blackberry bushes and the far round metal bed one has a cherry tree.  These beds came in a silver color and I spray painted them black before filling in with soil.

Another angle, but what a difference!  The privacy screens on the windows are clings; this post will show you how I put them up.

Looking back at these photos I can't believe how overgrown everything was.  Whenever you makeover it seems like no matter how much you work, the list of to-dos just keeps getting longer and longer.  These pictures are making me feel a little more accomplished 😆
