Still in the original packaging, the set consisted of two leaf styles in various sizes. The set was made by the Sculpy company as a companion product for this clay, but any clay will do.
(You can find this set here on Amazon)
The set looks like standard cookie cutters, but when opened up also contains plastic squares that feature 3D leaf veining. This allows you to press the vein detailing into your cut shapes.
Using Crayola Model Magic for my project, I rounded out little balls and then pressed them down on top of the 3D squares. You can see that when gently lifted from the plastic, the modeling clay now features the vein pattern.
Tip - If you pull the clay away from the plastic, the clay may warp and stretch. Instead, carefully hold the clay in place in one hand and then pull the plastic away from the clay. This helps keep your design nicely in place.
The next step was to use the cutters to create the leaf shapes.
Notice that the impression is larger than the cutter. I liked that because it meant that the vein design would extend all the way to the edges of the leaves.
Once I had my cutters in place, I pulled the extra clay away from the exterior. You can try pushing or pulling the remaining clay out of the shapes, but it usually messed up the designs. I like to stick my cutters in the freezer and wait until the clay is solidly frozen before easily popping it out.
Because it's fall I decided to paint my leaves in a rich, chocolate brown.
I thought about detailing the veining with a bit of gold, but decided to keep in simple. These leaves are now part of my Fall Fake Bake Collection.
And that's how my Sculpy Shape Maker experiment turned out!
