My jars were found at the thrift store for about $2 each, but you could certainly recycle a few from your pantry or fridge.  Just make sure they are large enough for the items that you will put inside.

I picked up my skeleton hands and full body at Dollar Tree.

The set of hands I simply positioned together in a clapping pose and dropped them into the jar.  It looked ok, but it needed a little filler.

I took tufts of cotton and lightly sprayed them with black spray paint to make them look aged and dirty.  My cotton is from a bag of stuffed toy filling, but you could use cotton balls if needed.  Just pull them apart and stretch them out a bit until you like how they look.

And then tucked them in around the hands.

I tackled the skeleton body a little differently, first dismembering him completely, and then tucking all of his parts into the smaller jar.  I liked the way he looked all jumbled up and decided not to add any cotton.  I didn't want to cover up any of his bones and I wanted the two jars to look a bit different from one another.

And there you have it, a couple of Halloween oddities ready for display.

  1. Wow. I am always amazed at the creative things you can do with items from Dollar Tree. You can see possibilities I'm sure I wouldn't see walking through the store. :) Nicely done. Thanks for sharing this post at the Will Blog for Comments linkup #8. Hope to see you next week, too!
