Recently I shared a post where I showed you how I repurposed faux evergreens to use for every season. Today I'm expanding on that outdoor topic by filling pots with thrifted greens, check it out:

I have a grouping of pots, some with artificial greens and some that look empty. The empty ones have daffodil bulbs, but the squirrels would not stop digging them up! I decided that adding a few faux stems would help to protect the bulbs.
Off to the thrift store I went where I found both of these foliage arrangements for $10. I removed the berries and cut apart the branches to make smaller stems.
After that it was a simple as poking the stems into the pots of dirt. I kept the stems sporadic to allow sunlight to still reach the bulbs, but make the digging potential unappealing.
And that's how I filled my pots with thrifted greens!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim!
DeleteWhat a brilliant idea and they blend right in. Featuring when my link party opens!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteJennifer, I have the solution for you with animals digging up your bulbs and plants: chicken wire! I cut out small sections and lay them over my pots. Just pick up a 6' roll and cut out what you need, works great! I forgot when I planted some little bulbs under our backyard oak and doggone if they didn't eat every one of those bulbs... Grrr! Next year I will try again. It's also why I have a ton of bushes and perennials out in the yard. Only the voles go after their roots, but not so much now that the soil is rarely disturbed and most of the plants are bigger.
ReplyDeleteHappy to feature your post for you this week at Share Your Style #492 as I also use faux in anything I hang on the shed or front door, and sometimes out front. :)
Hugs,
Barb :)
Thank you for the feature! Great tip with the chicken wire, do you bury it with soil or keep it all the way on top?
