How To: Create Your Own Costume Accessories With Dollar Store Finds

It's almost time for Halloween!

This year Baby Girl decided to be a Spider Queen and needed the perfect matching tiara and wand for her dress.  We couldn't find anything pre-made that pleased us, so we decided to make our own.  Keep reading to see how easy it is to alter a dollar store costume set into the accessories of your dreams!

(In case you are wondering, the Little Man is going to be a pirate.  His costume came complete with everything he needed)

The Dress

The entire project started with this dress: a pink, black and purple spider-webby gown.

Supplies

A tiara and wand set, some purple sparkly nail polish and a can of black spray paint helped us get started on this project.

Both the tiara/ wand set and the nail polish came from Dollar Tree and the paint from Wal-Mart.
(That's $3 we have in on this project!)

Spiders

I also snagged a few purple sparkly spiders from some Halloween roses that I already had.

Close-Up

Here you can see a better view of the most important supplies.

Tip:  Don't worry about the colors of the tiara/ wand.  You'll be covering all of that up with paint anyway, so instead focus on the shape that you like the best.

Step 1

The first thing to do was to give the accessories a coat of black paint.

Step 2

Once the black paint was dry, Baby Girl got to work with the sparkly purple nail polish.
(The polish looked more purple or pink depending on how many layers she applied.)

Step 3

Once everything had dried, I used hot glue to place the spiders.

Details

We had an extra spider and ended up gluing it on to the dress as well.

All Set

And there you have it, a super easy way to create your own costume accessories!
