Laundry Room

Just to recap, each room is a shadow box painted to match the wall color of my home.  I added a cover to the boxes so that they blend in with the room and Velcro tabs allow them to be opened.

The top photo here shows you the laundry room shadow box in my actual laundry room.  Behind the door is a 'gnome' or 'mouse' hole sticker that I made with my Cricut and I attached the shadow box to the wall nearby.  Because this is the laundry room, I made sure that a clothesline sticker was included.

The trim in the kitchen has been finished since I took these photos,
so the display is a bit more tidy now 😉

This shadow box isn't inside any of our bathrooms, but inside the hall closet instead.  This closet is where we keep all of our extra toiletries so I thought that it would be a good out of the way place.

The cutters I used were these snowman shapes in four different sizes.

(This set is similar but the snowmen don't have arms)

After mixing up some salt dough I used the set of thrifted leaf cutters to create these shapes and let them air dry.  Sometimes I air dry my dough and sometimes I use the oven at 250.  Air drying leaves the dough completely flat and pale, but takes at least a week.  If your dough pieces are very big it can take longer, and if the room is humid mold can even start to grow while the dough is still damp.  Oven drying needs a couple of hours at least and will give the dough a bit of a browned look.  Sometimes the dough can get puffy in the oven, but if you catch it quickly enough you can use another pan to flatten your pieces back down.

This post has the salt dough recipe.

I painted my cookies white first and then added the black hats, both in acrylic.

And I used puffy paint for the faces, buttons and scarves.  You could do these parts with a brush as well, but I like the added dimension that puffy paint gives.

And here are my completed snowmen!

Miniature Home Decor

Starting with my thrifted shadowbox I painted it in beige and sketched out my floor plan in pencil.
Like my mini laundry room, I decided to make this a two story room.

Miniature Home Decor

By gluing craft sticks together I made a floor that I glued into place above the stairs and painted everything in white and gray.  Do you notice the white vertical beam?  That's a trimmed down craft stick that I painted and glued on.  It gives more dimension to the staircase as well as provides a bit more support for the upper floor.

Miniature Home Decor

These photos show you how I went about making the bathtub - I began with a base of trimmed down craft sticks, added the two sides and then filled in the ends.  I kept the dimensions really simple and used a width of three sticks for every side of the tub.

Miniature Home Decor

I painted the tub white and glued down.

Miniature Home Decor

For my sink I had to get creative.  I took a doll's hamburger box (think American Girl doll sized accessories), painted it white and used a gray sharpie to detail a cabinet.  The yellow basket is from Barbie and I thought it could serve as the sink.

Miniature Home Decor

After painting the sink gray I glued it to the box and then glued the box to the upper floor.  The mirror, like so many of my other mini rooms, is the inside of a photo frame sticker.  Rather than use the framed shaped sticker I took out inside shape from the sticker page backing, colored it in gray and stuck it to the wall.

Miniature Home Decor

Rather than make an actual toilet I opted for a toilet closet - it's just three craft sticks glued to make a privacy wall.  The wall shelves are also craft sticks and the accessories are all Barbie.  Some I repainted but the duck, bar of soap and yellow bottle I left as is.  The tiny plants are just bits of greenery cut from faux bushes and the bath towel is another Barbie item.  I made the toilet paper role by cutting a small rectangle of fabric, rolling it up with glue and then gluing it to the wall (the hanger detail I drew on in Sharpie).  The ceiling light is a button and I tucked a few other buttons here and there as well.

And that's my miniature bathroom!

Salt Dough Decor

I found these leaf shaped cookie cutters at the thrift store for a couple of dollars.

Once the salt dough had dried I panted the interiors of the leaves with gold acrylic paint.

Salt Dough Decor

With the acrylic paint dry I added detailing in gold puffy paint.

And here is how they look finished and piled on a plate to join the rest of my fall fake bake collection.
