I'm always adding to my collection of fake food decor whether I find new cutters, a new mold or just want to experiment with a different medium! This time I used salt dough and some new Halloween shapes, check it out:

Here are the cutters that I found at the thrift store. Any time I find a shape that I don't currently have I make sure to purchase it. That way I get to add more pieces to my fake bake holiday sets and fill out😍 my cookie cutter collection!
After mixing up some salt dough I used the cutters to create these shapes and let them air dry.
Sometimes I air dry my dough and sometimes I use the oven at 250. Air drying leaves the dough completely flat and pale, but takes at least a week. If your dough pieces are very big it can take longer, and if the room is humid mold can even start to grow while the dough is still damp. Oven drying needs a couple of hours at least and will give the dough a bit of a browned look. Sometimes the dough can get puffy in the oven, but if you catch it quickly enough you can use another pan to flatten your pieces back down.
Do you see the cracks in the dough in the photo here? That's simply because I didn't spend more time working the dough before cutting. Sometimes I like a really smooth cookie and sometimes I'm going for more of a roughed up look. If you want your dough to be smooth then spend a little more time working it before rolling it out and you won't have this problem.

Once the dough cutouts were completely dry I painted them with acrylic. I left these cookies pale, but if you want a more browned look you can give them a 'wash' first. Mix a couple of drops of brown paint with water until you like the color, then brush the stained water over both sides of your cookie. Adding water is going to make your dough a bit sticky again on the surface, so be sure to let your pieces thoroughly dry again before moving on.
A bit of puffy paint for the details and my cookies were done!
I only made three because I have such a large amount of faux Halloween treats already. These I will tuck in with the rest of my cookies and because I left them pale and a little rough, they will add a nice contrast You can see more of my Halloween fake bake collection here.
