Christmas Fake Bakes

While thrifting I found this cutter set for a couple of dollars.  It's intended to make miniature gingerbread houses that can sit on the edge of a mug

(Here is the same set on Amazon)

Using air dry clay, I rolled out a bit and cut the shapes.

Note - I have a couple of large rolling pins, one wooden and one marble, but didn't want to dirty and then clean them for such a small project.  A drinking glass worked just fine and rinsed clean before sticking it into the dishwasher 😊

I let the clay pieces fully dry before assembling and painting.  The photo is cut-off a bit, so it only shows an odd number of parts.  You will need to make sure that if you have an even number in order to construct your houses.

Here is the set of parts that you will need for each house; a front and back, two side pieces and two roof pieces.

If you look closely where my fingers are, you can see where I smudged the shapes a bit pulling them from the cutters.  To avoid this you can put your clay filled cutters into the freezer and let the clay fully freeze before pulling from the cutter.

Using hot glue I attached the shapes together.

It looked a little wonky at first, with gaps here and there, but that will be fixed later.

Once constructed I painted the houses in a cookie color and let dry.

Then using light weight spackle in an icing bag, I piped on the spackle to cover each joint.  Not only does the spackle look like icing and give that gingerbread house feel, but it covers all of the gaps nicely.

For a final touch, I glued on a candy wreath embellishment from my craft stash.

The tiny houses are now displayed with the rest of my Christmas fake bakes.
