I wanted to hide an outdoor storage area (mess) with something temporary until a decorative fence can be put in place. Here is how I started with a curtain plan and ended up with a woodpile:

Here is how the area looked before; my decor shed on the left and my garden shed on the right. The area in between the two sheds and behind the wooden fence is our 'junkyard / woodlot' where husband keeps outdoor storage for building materials and firewood. The outdoor storage is necessary but not pretty looking! A line of baby evergreen trees has been planted and eventually my husband is going to put in some decorative fence panels, but until then I thought maybe I could hang a curtain to hide the mess.

I figured I could tie a clothesline from one of the trees, run it along the area I wanted to hide and then anchor it to a post. I thrifted this very heavy lamp for $14.99 to serve as the post.

I spray painted the lamp in black, used E6000 to attach solar lights and then my husband anchored the lamp to a sturdy tree stump.
All we need now is the curtain, right? Oh but wait, mother nature had other plans the same afternoon when a sudden storm came through...
...well, that's one way to hide the mess.... Would you believe that the lamp was still standing? Other than one five gallon bucket, nothing was broken! Not a single one of my baby trees was touched, it was kind of amazing really. One day of brush removal here, one day of brush, branch and tree removal from the neighbors and then a full month of waiting for tree people to be available to cut what was left in the air....and we can carry on...
What started out as a $14.99 projects with a thrifted lamp turned into a $4000.00 tree removal!
I was pretty much over the curtain idea by this point and we needed a place to stack the firewood...so here you go - a stacked firewood temporary fence to hide the mess! In case you are wondering, the lamp post is still there. It makes a nice light by the chair 😆
And that is my adventure of trying to hide unfinished space in the backyard.
