Garden Decor

Have you ever used anything unexpected for planting?  Recently I turned an unusable grill into a patio planter, check it out:

Our outdoor grilling area was looking a bit messy, so I decided to clean things up.  All cluttered together in this photo are a smoker (the tall cylinder), three regular sized grills and a very tiny one.  My husband likes to have two grills so that he can cook a bunch at once, the extra one in the very back used to belong to my Granny.  It doesn't work anymore but we didn't want to get rid of it, so it's just been sitting like that for a while.

I have no idea why we also have the miniature one, but that's ok.  He doesn't bug me about my various collections, and I like to return that favor 😁

Here is how the grill was to start with.  It looks okay from the outside, but the grate on the bottom was no longer working and couldn't keep charcoal inside.

I lined the opening with landscape fabric and filled with soil.

And planted a few leeks.  This would look really pretty with flowers too...

Here is how the area looks now, nice and (mostly) tidy!  My husband hates the rocks here and wants to put in a patio, but for now this will do 😉

*Note - While my husband keeps these grills like this while cool, he does not use them this close to the house.  Whenever grilling make, sure to pull your unit away from the house or anything else flammable.

And that's how I repurposed a BBQ grill into a patio planter.
I hope you enjoyed this how-to post, thanks for stopping by!
