Starting with this vintage cake pan I found for $1.99 (thrift store), I gave it a coat of brown spray paint.

After that I used puffy paint to begin filling in the details.  I found it easiest to start with the lowest level first (in this case the glass of the windows and house interior in yellow) and then layer the next color on top (the purple of the trim).  That way you aren't trying to fill in details inside already applied paint, which can get messy and frustrating!

The reason that I use puffy paint is because I want it to look more like icing, but you could certainly use regular paint and a brush if you wanted.

I kept going with more colors of puffy paint until the design was complete.  This photo was taken while the gray looking paint was still wet, and dried as a clear silver glitter.  The spiderweb in the window I colored in black first, then went over with the glitter, so when dry is black and sparkly as opposed to gray.

And there you have it, a cute fake cake display that won't go bad!
