Somebody was giving away black metal Christmas ornament display tree and my husband brought it home to see if I would like to have it. I decided to use it outside and light it up with solar lights, check it out:

It's a little hard to see, but the ornament stand is in the middle of the picture here. I used metal lawn stakes (the kind you get with weed fabric) to anchor the stand in place.
This edge of the yard is being turned into a pollinator meadow with lots of blooming plants. Each of the flags is a baby plant getting it's roots nice and developed. The change in color from deep green to a yellower green shows where our yard ends and the neighbor's begins - the deep green is clover while the yellow green is standard lawn. My neighbor also planted quite a few bee and butterfly friendly plants, the tall ones that you can see are goldenrod. It's going to be pretty nice once both sides are fully mature and blend together 😍
Here is how the tree looks up close, with plenty of spots to hang ornaments, or in my case, solar lights!
I purchased 16 solar lights and took them apart like this. The stakes I tossed in the recycling bin but the lights and clear plastic I needed for the tree.
Using electrical tape that would match the lights, I attached wire to each light like this and then screwed them back into their clear plastic bases.
After that it was as simple as wiring the lights to the tree! You want to make sure to wire them tightly so that they cant blow off in the wind. Hanging them from the tree like ornaments will not work.
Here is how the tree looks all lit up at dusk. A few weeks went by before I remembered to get this photo, look at how much taller the golden rod already is!

ReplyDeleteMost of our neighborhood is environmentally conscious AND we live just a few blocks from a large, native plant focused park. It's all so pretty and we get so much wildlife!
